Autumn Energy

When I was asked to brand Fall Fest, Liberty University’s annual October music festival, I was extremely excited.

To anyone who knows me, I’m a bit of a Fall-Aholic, so to get the opportunity to brand an event themed around fall was a dream.

From the get-go, I knew I wanted to approach the branding as a celebration of fall. I knew that by evoking fall imagery, we would incite interest in the event, and draw large crowds. So I went to work illustrating something that would really stire that “Autumn Feeling” in our key demographic.

Illustrations

Being a fall-themed event definitely meant that autumnal imagery was a must, so we tried to capture that feeling in our illustrations.

I began the process by researching the event, so I could work some of the important elements into the supporting imagery. In addition, I tried to create a bit of a running word list of things that put me in a fall mood.

Pumpkins, pies, apple cider, caramel apples; all these things needed to be incorporated while not making it feel too cluttered, so we settled on a stippled minimalistic art style, that I really fell in love with. Pulling everything into this style made it all feel cohesive, and really brought clarity to our vision for the branding.

Lots and lots of iterations.

Lots and lots of iterations.

This project was among the most revised I worked on with Liberty SA, as we ended up having to rework much of the event over time.

However, I am extremely proud of the finished result. It screams Fall, and the branding and color palate I created ended up sticking around past my tenure with the department.

Jump In.

This video, animated by our Marketing Team, was played at our bi-weekly convocation in front of thousands of viewers a week.

It was crazy to think my work was being displayed in front of our entire school, and I knew from the moment I watched it this event would be something special.
